Abstract

PT. Sims Jaya Kaltim is a mining service company (contractor) that was founded in 2001 which was originally part of the third-largest coal producer in Indonesia namely PT. Kideco Jaya Agung (PT. Kideco) which holds the coal mining business work agreement or PKP2B. PT. Sims Jaya Kaltim provides mining services in waste removal, coal production, pit operation and development by applying open-pit mining method. In the production of overburden stripping, the mechanical equipment used is Hitachi EX2600, Hitachi EX2500 and Komatsu PC2000, whereas the transportation equipment that used is dump truck Caterpillar CAT 777E, Caterpillar CAT 777D and Komatsu HD 785-7.

The problem that happens currently is still big percentage of time is not productive or idle time which is flaming condition of the engine but does not produce production of overburden stripping. In that situation, the operator continues to turn on the engine so that it happens extravagance of fuel consumption. Based on company data on June 2021 the idle time percentage is still 16% where the company targets decrease in idle time to 14%. The magnitude of idle time is caused by the high waiting time, queuing time, stop empty time and stop load time.

When the fuel consumption of idle time is known from calculation using the RPM approach is 9,85 liters/hours with unproductive time or idle time 1207 hours/month and total fuel consumption is 11.888 liters/months, whereas the actual consumption is 55,88 liters/hours with working hour 7538 hours/months and total consumption is 420.619 liters/months,

After repairing the idle time of Caterpillar CAT 777E dump truck by optimizing the utilization of the fleet management system (FMS)-FOCUS and monitoring in the field, improving the operator’s habit and applying the match factor concept during the cycle time, there is an idle time reduction to 903.5 hours/month and make the percentage of idle time is 12%. That makes the reduction of fuel consumption to 417.630 liters/months which means it has filled up the target of reducing idle time and fuel consumption efficiency which is expected by the company.
