Abstract

There is a strong correlation between regional development and economic growth. Regional development is expected to lower regional disparity and poverty rate. This research is conducted to investigate the correlation between (1) economic growth and regional development, (2) poverty rate and regional disparity, and (3) the role of government in regional development with a case study in Sleman Regency. This research utilized both primary data, obtained by conducting interviews with local government and secondary data provided by previous research and National Statistical Bureau (BPS) database. This research utilized an evaluative descriptive approach, combined with the utilization of spatial data visualization. This research shows that economic growth and regional development in Sleman Regency mostly occur in the urbanized area. There is unequal revenue distribution between urbanized and less urbanized areas, with some districts in Sleman Regency lagging behind. The analysis of Williamson's Index also shows that Sleman Regency could be categorized as a region with moderate economic disparity. This research underpins the role of local government as coordinator and facilitator in the regional development process.
