ABSTRACT
As part of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, community service activities are an essential responsibility of lecturers to disseminate research outcomes to the broader public. One such activity is a public outreach program focusing on the role of landmarks as a city’s identity and attraction. Landmarks play a significant role in shaping urban visual order, enhancing spatial orientation, and fostering emotional attachment between people and their environment. Using the case study of Tugu Yogyakarta, also known as Tugu Pal Putih, this program aims to raise public awareness of the importance of landmarks as cultural symbols and urban identity elements that contribute to city image and tourism appeal. The study indicates that although Tugu Yogyakarta is widely recognized as a tourism icon, many people are still unaware of its symbolic meaning and its role in shaping the city’s image. Therefore, this outreach program is expected to increase public understanding of the cultural significance of landmarks while supporting government efforts in cultural preservation and strengthening urban character.
