Abstract

Amalgamation  is one of the methods that used to extract gold from the gold ore. Mercury is used in amalgamation process to form the amalgam.Tailing might contained mercury and it is thrown away to the river. Mercury is one of heavy metals which have a very dangerous effect to human healthy.The research has been done to determinate the quality of water in  Sangon river.The quality of water is determinated by Peraturan Pemerintah No. 82 Tahun 2001. There were 6 sampel SA1, SA2,SA3,SA4,SA5 and SA6 which tested by Mercury Analyzer in LPPT Gadjah Mada University. The result of laboratory sample test shown that the mercury contents in water Sangon river is under the quality standar. It’s mean that the water of Sangon river is safe to use according to the class II quality standard according to Peraturan Pemerintah No. 82Tahun 2001
